June 17th, 2006 - The Jersey Barons held their inaugural annual Middlesex County Park
Clean-Up at 9:00 AM on Saturday June 17, 2006.
The Barons were directed
to clean up Old Bridge Waterfront Park by the Middlesex County Parks Department, as the park they recommended being the most in need of a pick-me-up. As a way to say thank you to the community, the Barons showed up with trash bags and work gloves in tow to pick up as much trash and debris as possible on the picturesque beach at Old Bridge Waterfront.
Minutes down Route 35 South from the Barons' home field at Raritan Bay Waterfront Park, Old Bridge Waterfront was a perfect choice for the Barons to work on. The Barons first started out in the parking lot, picking up cigarette butts, candy wrappers, fishing line, and other waste found around the lot. Then the Barons moved onto the beach, where they spent most of their time. At the end of the day, the Barons produced eight full bags of litter and one huge truck tire that had been buried in three feet of sand.
It was hard work, but rewarding knowing that the team gave back to the County that has given them so much during their inaugural season at their new home in Middlesex County.
