The Jersey Barons, long noted for their winning tradition, on the field and off the field, are at it again.
One of the projects for 2008 is The Barons Canned Food Drive. Designed to help those in the community in need, the Barons plan to collect a whopping 20 bags of food (1 for each regular season game they will play this spring). This is an undertaking that even the Barons would have trouble with alone so they are reaching out to each of their opponents to come together and show what teamwork and brotherhood is all about. The team is requesting that each of their opponents: Bulls, Angels, Mets, Knights, Jackals, Bellnuts, Clippers, Red Sox, Pirates, Bulldogs and Twins each bring as many cans to theirs games as possible so this lofty goal can be achieved. Before the playoffs start, Barons Manager Phil Barone, Assistant Manager Dave Micallef and Pitching Coach Aaron Kalb will personally deliver these charitable donations to various food pantries and soup kitchens within the community. Those entities have specifically stated that they are in need of the following items:
CANNED MEATS AND STEWS
PASTA
CANNED MILK
TUNA FISH
CEREAL
RICE
VEGETABLES
CANNED FRUIT
PEANUT BUTTER
JELLY
Any and all assistance from fans, friends and opponents will be greatly appreciated, not only by the Barons, but also by many men, women and children throughout the county.
